What Is RAM?

Simply put, the purpose of RAM is to provide fast read and write access to storage devices. Your computer uses RAM to load data because it is much faster than running the same data directly from the hard drive.
Imagine RAM as a desk. A desk is used for quick access to important documents, writing tools, and other items you need now. If you don't have a desk, you will store everything in drawers and filing cabinets, which means completing daily tasks will take longer because you have to constantly open these lockers to get what you need, and then spend extra time putting them back in.
Similarly, all data you are currently using on your computer (or smartphone, tablet, etc.) will be temporarily stored in RAM. This type of memory, like a desk, provides faster read and write speeds than using a hard drive in analogy. Due to physical limitations such as rotation speed, most hard drives are noticeably slower than RAM.
RAM and hard drive work together (but they are different things)
Although there may be other types of memory inside a computer, RAM is often simply referred to as' memory '. The focus of this article is on RAM, which is not related to the storage capacity of the hard disk, although the two are often mistakenly replaced in conversations. For example, 1GB of RAM is different from 1GB of hard disk space.
Unlike hard drives, hard drives can be powered back on after a power outage without losing data, but the contents of RAM are always cleared when the computer is turned off. That's why when you reopen the computer, there are no programs or files still open.
One way for computers to address this limitation is to put them into sleep mode. When hibernating a computer, the contents of RAM are copied to the hard drive when the computer is turned off, and then all contents are copied back to RAM when the computer is restarted.
Each motherboard only supports a certain range of memory type combinations, so please make sure to confirm with your motherboard manufacturer before purchasing.
